What You Need to Know to Stop Procrastination Now!

We are back for another DOUBLE WHAMMY WEDNESDAY

Abraham Lincoln once said, "Leave nothing for tomorrow which can be done today." And sure, that may be a great thought. But according to some studies, 1 in 4 people admit that they are chronic procrastinators. It’s easy to make excuses or create distractions for ourselves, but is beating procrastination really as simple as just doing it? Listen to The Dani Johnson Show on Wednesday, October 17th at 12 pm ET/11 am CT as Dani discusses strategies to help you stop procrastination dead in its tracks!

Today's morning subject could not have come at a better time.  On days when you ready don't feel like doing much it seems for me that those are the days when I have so much to do.  Any other time I would say I have good time management skills.  But these days I need to say I had good management skills.  What has happened to my ability to get a lot done in a short period of time?  I raised 5 kids, went through medical school and residency and started my solo practice career all without missing a beat.  I did it all one could say, and I loved every moment of it.  I would tell people when asked how was it possible, that I didn't have any other choice.  And that I believe is the key.  Not having any other choice but to get something done.  I believe one procrastinates when there is an option to do so.

What is procrastination

The Wikipedia's definition refers to procrastination as the act of replacing high-priority actions with tasks of lower priority, or doing something from which one derives enjoyment, and thus putting off important tasks to a later time.

Why do you feel you procrastinate? When did procrastination get you in trouble? If you could go back and change something what would it be?
"Procrastinate now, don't put it off." -- Ellen DeGeneres
The reason I was able to get so much done while I was raising the kids is because I had the necessary skills .   You too can obtain the skills, for skills can be learned.  What worked for me, when I seemed to be at my peak performance is listed  below and will be discussed over a series of blogs.

First,  determine what it is that causes you to put things off until later.  Some reasons people give for procrastination include fear, anxiety, or just having disbelief about a situation.

Second, set Goals.  Your goals need to included short, medium and long-term aspirations.  The goals will be what will drive you forward.

Third, make a "TO DO LIST", this was huge for me, for I wrote down everything I had to do.

Fourth, now attack the list,  prioritize the list on a daily basis.

Fifth, make a commitment to complete your task.

4 Simple Steps to Restoration

4 Simple Steps to Restoration

Have you lost relationships? Have you lost finances? Have you lost all hope for a bright future? Have you lost sight of your vision and dreams? No matter what has been lost, it can be restored. You can have joy and know that what lies ahead is uplifting news. You can get to where you want to be and never be the same again. Listen to this Spiritual Equipping Broadcast on today Wednesday, October 10th at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT and discover how to bring restoration and peace into your life by applying  4 simple steps.

There is a difference between hearing instructions and following instructions. If you do not follow or accept instruction you are in rebellion, and there are consequences. For instance, if you have "War on Debt", but you choose not to open up the package but do not listen to it, this is an example of being in rebellion.  The consequence is the debt you are experiencing. Rebellion is going to trap you, lead you to depression, and hopelessness. Rebellion will accept no instruction. The difference between hearing instructions and accepting instructions is action. Zephaniah 3:1-5, 9, 17

Their is hope and blessings for obedience. 1Cor 19:13; Philp 4:13

The four steps: 1.  Repent (for your part in it)
                         2.  Forgive
                         3.  Surrender to God (return to God)
                         4.  Learn what you need to know (increase your skill)

What type of team are you on?

What does the word teamwork mean to you? Are you a team player, or a poor sport?
Are you a leader or an follower? Does it matter when you are part of a team?

When you were younger, you heard the word teamwork all the time. Whether it was in football, at school, or with your family or friends, you knew that teamwork meant working together to win the game, to finish a project, or to get a job done. Now as an adult, you work with – or lead – a group of people (your team) on a daily basis. What does it takes to work effectively and productively as a team? How do you lead in a way that people want to follow you?

On tonight's Monday Night Strategy Call, you are going to learn how to create an awesome work environment where you and your team will THRIVE. You're going to learn how become the leader that everyone wants to follow by pulling the best out...
in your team members…even if you're not in a leadership position! If you work with other people, lead other people, or have other people around you, you MUST hear this call! Listen in tonight at 10 pm ET/7 pm PST!

  • Position yourself as a leader, even if you’re not in a leadership position
  • Create a diverse and harmonious working environment
  • Pull the best out of your team members
  • Become the leader that everyone wants to follow

"Teamwork is the opportunity for all members to use their gifts to benefit the whole team. Leaders often have a hard time with teamwork...lots of them are single players. But I don't care how great they think they are - they will not get to the top by themselves. It's just not going to happen. None of us can get to the top without the help of others' gifts, which in some areas are better than ours. That, my friend, is where teamwork comes in!" Dani Johnson

  • Do you feel part of a team?  Can you become a team leader?
Please let me know how you feel about tonight's call.

Read This Article Before You Start a Profile on LinkedIn

This is a re post from an article I read on LinkedIn.  I thought it was very interesting ideas for anyone old and new to posting in a professional manner.  I especially like the recommendation about posting a professional photo.  Let me know which one you like.

How to Start Your Profile on LinkedIn: Here is Your Chance to Grow Your Business, Marketing Campaign or Professional Career

Your LinkedIn profile is a business card, CV, company backgrounder and public relations professional all in one package. LinkedIn profiles are highly ranked by search engines. If you have a profile on LinkedIn and do a Goggle search of your name chances are your LinkedIn profile will be on the first page of the search - this is powerful!

    1. Use a professional headshot for your photo. Get a friend with a decent camera or invest in a professional headshot. People viewing your profile will make an instant decision based on the quality and professionalism of your photo. Forget the funny, silly shots. Don't think you need a photo? Think again! People will not trust you and your effectiveness will be cut to a fraction you're your profile does not include a photograph.

    2. Under your name is an opportunity to state your professional headline - make it clear and compelling. For those with a sense of humour please leave the humour out of your profile. Would you use humour on a CV if you were serious about getting a job?

    3. Put all of your relevant experience on your profile, the more that is there the better chance you have of building a connection with someone who has worked in the same sector, studied at the same school or who has the same hobbies as you.

    4. Link all of your websites, twitter feeds, blogs to your profile. Also do the reverse. Link your blogs, company website profiles, etc to your Linkedin profile. SEO loves this kind of activity.

    5. If you are a designer there are applications to post your portfolio and other work.

    6. Build a PowerPoint to explain your business and use the application to show that on your profile.

    7. Do a search of all of the LinkedIn applications and make use of all of the relevant applications to build as a robust profile as possible.

    8. It is important to make your page public to benefit from the search engine effectiveness of LinkedIn. Check out your settings.

Breaking Free From Addiction | Dani Johnson

Breaking Free From Addiction | Dani Johnson

Wow, Church was good this morning and tonight this was another great call from Dani Johnson.  What is an addiction? Wikipedia's definition - Addiction is the continued use of a mood altering substance or behavior despite adverse dependency consequences, or a neurological impairment leading to such behaviors.  Amy  broke it down as, you can never get enough of something you do not need for yourself.  Dani says greed and addiction are both driven by idolatry the fruits of which are:

never being satisfied, you always want more
constantly working, trying to hide shame,
trying to prove you are not your circumstance
    blaming others, hating others

The four guest speakers each brought a different point of few on how addictions affected their lives as well as their families lives.  There is no one face to addiction, and its a family disease.  So addictions are not just from some type of drug, they come in many forms.  Addictions like being a workaholic, addicted to Facebook  addicted to your cellular phone, you must wake up with it and can't go to sleep without it or checking the messages. There were some really sad stories shared tonight, esp the story of Dani losing a sister in a car accident due to drugs in her family 's life.
Unfortunately I was unable to catch the name of the book that Nick mention was given to him and how it helped to change his life.  Maybe we can find the name at his website -victorytempleministry.com.

I also enjoyed how he stated that God started to "close door" right in front of his face and basically forced him to make a choice to turn around.  He stated even after having been in multiple drug rehab facilities, it wasn't until he was told that his problem had nothing to do with his drug use, but everything to do with "sin".  Thank God there is a solution, sin was the problem and JESUS was the answer.

Hopefully there will be a part two.  They really didn't go into the signs of addiction and I would really like to know what they are.  They did discuss how some family members, out of love for a family member, can actually make the addictive behavior worse by doing things for the addict that they should be doing for themselves.  Like rescuing them from their responsibility (like giving them money), over protecting them, over worrying for them, lying and covering up for them.  These are counterproductive behavior, it doesn't help the addict to stop their destructive behavior.

Do you have any addictions? Have you recovered from any addictions? or has addiction affected you in different ways?  Let me know your thoughts.  Breaking Free From Addiction | Dani Johnson is a post from: Spend a Day With Me. © Carolyn L. Cornelius - All rights reserved ------------------
